Food

Today I started writing down everything I'm eating, not because I'm overly concerned with calories or losing weight, but mostly because I've never tried it and think it will be enlightening. I probably eat more than I think I do, and I'm curious as to how much (and what!) I'm eating.

Last night, for example, my dessert craving got the better of me, and as I just tossed out the Halloween candy I ended up eating a couple of marshmallows that I mashed between Costa Rican shortbread/chocolate cookies and called Smores. So things like that perhaps might be more glaring when recorded. I do like to be held accountable.

So today, food diary! Of course I'm on good behavior on day 1, and so far have had my Kashi GoLean breakfast cereal, chicken-and-black-bean-with-guacamole tacos for lunch (on corn tortillas, not flour), carrots as a snack, and for dinner baked steelhead trout with tomato/caper/green olive topping (just a little bit) and a side of sauteed zucchini and mushrooms. Lots of water, too, which seems to help the appetite. So far, on paper, today looks pretty good! I have a swim tonight at 7:30 though, and I am usually starving after a good swim, so I might break down and end the evening with a small bowl of mini-wheats (my favorite cereal and kind of a splurge)... We'll see.

I think the biggest battle will be staying honest and writing it all down - it's easy to lie to my chart about what I eat, but I think since this is more out of curiosity than weight loss obsession (and also because I want to see how my eating changes on workout days versus non-workout days) that I should be able to keep it real, so to speak...
