Actually, what a couple of days! My good friends Ben and Sarah were in town, so Thursday night (post-phone interview and post-one hour ride on my trainer in the garage) we all went out for happy hour and dinner, and that turned into drinks and dancing. Next thing we all know it's after midnight and we're eating Taco Bell at Ben and Sarah's hotel. Awesome evening.
Needless to say Friday was a bit rough, but I got a lot done at work and then headed home. Because B/S had an early flight Saturday morning, and Gabe and Roger had to be in Saratoga at 8 on Saturday, we decided to have a slumber party at Chateau Gardner/Hall. We had a lovely dinner at Buca di Beppo (so. much. food.) and then stayed up until midnight talking. Rob got some great photos of us all in our low energy state.
This morning was a TNT swim and bike. Before the swim, we had a little pep talk from a former coach, who after telling us his story (both sad a funny about losing his mother to cancer - sad for obvious reasons, and funny because at one point she pulled him over to tell him something important and said, "Your real father is the milkman.") and telling us how far we'd come asked for a volunteer. He specifically wanted someone who doesn't volunteer a lot. The crowd was silent. He prodded us again, so guess who gave in? That's right, me.
He introduced me to everyone, then had them cheer for me for a full 30 seconds and asked me to really take it all in, to make eye contact and to just enjoy that feeling. It was surreal and actually extremely cool. I think I needed a pick-me-up this morning and there's just something about 40 people screaming your name and clapping for you to get you going. I did a little victory jump and threw my fists in the air and played along.
After the rah-rah was over we hopped in the water. I was feeling heavy and slow, perhaps because for two days all I'd been doing was eating and drinking (Cold Stone Creamery two days in a row is just not necessary. So, so good, but really not necessary.). But we cranked out a short little set in the pool and then hopped on our bikes. There were two routes, a ~20 miler and a ~30 miler. Today I chose the 30 miler, and I'm glad I did. I felt fantastic on the bike! And I was neither the slowest nor the last. I had people yelling "Go Megan" while riding (leftovers from the cheering session), which made me laugh, and talked to a couple of guys on the way back in, one of whom swam the wrong way at the Treeathlon and ended up out in the channel instead of making the requisite left to stay in the harbor. By talking to those with bike computers (I need one of those, but they are expensivo so I just mooch off of other people who are close to my pace and call their stats mine) I found out we averaged about 14mph over a course with rolling hills. I was impressed! And the total miles came in at just under 29 - the longest I've ridden all season!
Then, of course, it was time for Baja Fresh. I didn't get home until almost 1:30 today, it was a long workout. And after Baja Fresh I decided to just close my eyes for a minute. And woke up 2 1/2 hours later. I guess I needed that!
Tomorrow I get to sleep in, thank goodness. I might go for a run in the morning but won't do anything too crazy tomorrow. I'm tired. And I just want to eat everything. We're about to start our taper, so the workouts will get lighter and lighter, and next weekend is a practice tri, which should be a riot.
No word on the job yet - I am guessing I should hear whether I make it in for an interview by the end of next week or so. Fingers crossed, it sounded really fun!
