Good Timing

This morning I was driving to work, feeling a little spacey as last night Rob and I went to a nice dinner to celebrate his birthday and drank a bit of wine. It was dark and rainy, I was in my own world – and missed the 280 split from the 1. Thankfully, I have a GPS, and go to work so early I wouldn’t be missing anything by showing up at, say 7:15 instead of 6:45 in the morning.

I turned around, got back on the freeway going the other direction, paid enough attention to actually get onto the 280 north towards downtown…

…and got stopped in traffic. Clearly there’d been an accident, as there’s never traffic that early. And in fact, as people were jockeying for lane position, horns and sirens approached on the shoulder. The accident had clearly happened only minutes before, as emergency personnel was just arriving. As I drove by, I watched the paramedics set up the stretcher, and a woman was still sitting the driver’s seat as the paramedics began attending to her.

I think if I hadn’t missed my exit, that accident would have happened right about the time I was driving through.

Kind of gave me the creeps.
